A Love Unrefined

Angel and Saint were my first taste of writing a spin-off.

There were many requests to know about Saint, Ace’s oldest brother. With him and Angel, I chose to write part of their story in a flashback from when they first met. In doing so, not only was I able to establish their connection, but I also introduced characters for books that would follow.

The flashback scenes were an intricate part of the story. It demonstrated how hard Saint fought to have Angel as his wife and the mother of his children. The trust that the two had for each other was honestly my favorite aspect of their relationship.

I didn’t want any outside factors to play a role in their conflict. So, I focused on their trust as well as how far the two would go to protect one another. There’s also a question about whether lying can be okay in a marriage. The automatic answer is no, but your opinion may change after reading A Love Unrefined. Without revealing the book, I left that to readers’ interpretation.

In writing this book, I was able to bring awareness to the human trafficking issue that is taking place in Haiti. Making that a part of the story helped readers better comprehend why Angel was the way she was.

A Love Unrefined illustrates how not every love story is perfect, yet it’s always worth it.
