Choose Me

Cherish and Desmond.

Writing a story about these two brought me so much joy. It was my first time writing a fake

marriage trope, but I believe I did it justice.

Desmond was a “playboy” that fell hard for Cherish.

Cherish was only focused on fulfilling her duties for the survival of her and her sisters.

Their engagement might’ve been fake, but their love was real.

In life, we all have choices, some of which we battle with more than others. That was the

underlying theme of Choose Me. Do we choose ourselves or someone else’s happiness? And to

do so, we have to ask ourselves the question: can someone else’s happiness be tied to your own?

The answer isn’t the same for every person. Cherish and Desmond chose to navigate that journey

together.

Their family played a major role in that said happiness. Our family dynamics shape us, whether

it’s for better or worse. For Desmond, losing his mother and feeling as though he never had a

father sent him down a path of self-destruction. He lost who he was and his motivation.

Cherish’s entire life was about pleasing her parents and protecting her sisters from the truth. A

truth that I am not going to discuss in my journal. But if you have read Choose Me and would

like to know why that truth was written, please feel free to message me on Instagram or FB: Ivy

Laika.

In the end, Desmond and Cherish had a choice, and they made the one that was right for them.
